TANYA KONG, B.E.S., LL.B.

Principal & Founder of Kong Law & Kong Love

“The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he’s always doing both.”

– James A. Michener

Tanya is a creative spirit wielding artistry in all aspects of her life & career. A barrister, solicitor and notary by trade for the past decade, Tanya took an existential leap in 2022 by turning her personal passion for life & love into a new profession as a Transformational Life Coach (T.L.C.). She continues to offer select legal services to the community of Whistler and beyond with an intention to grow her T.L.C. practice into a full-time career and ultimately wind down Kong Law.

After attaining a bachelor degree in Environmental Science and Business from the University of Waterloo in 2006, and then moving to the UK for a year; she returned to Canada to graduate with a law degree at the University of Ottawa in 2010. She is called to the bars of both Ontario and British Columbia. She has lived, studied and worked around the world, including Scotland, London (UK), Germany, Austria, Spain and, of course, across her beloved home country of Canada. Born in New Brunswick, bred in Ontario and now living in British Columbia – she’s passionate about her roots, proud to be first generation Canadian and dedicated to serving her community.

After articling with Zayouna Law Firm in Mississauga, Ontario, Tanya was called to the Ontario Bar and hired to work with one of Canada’s fastest growing technology companies*, PointClickCare, a cloud-based medical record software company. As Legal Counsel, she was responsible for drafting and negotiating sales and commercial contracts; creating standardized administrative procedures for the company’s repeated and stand-alone business transactions; ensuring corporate due diligence, health and privacy compliance in the US and Canada; as well as addressing employment, litigation, anti-trust and intellectual property matters on an ad hoc basis.

Tanya was admitted to the British Columbia Bar in November 2016 and shortly thereafter established Kong Law in Whistler, British Columbia. Today her solicitor practice includes Corporate, Commercial, Wills and Estates and some Real Estate law.

Throughout her life, Tanya has remained cognizant of the social, economic and environmental tenets of her local and global communities. She has held full time positions with Canada’s National Research and Education Network (NREN), a.k.a. the CANARIE Network, the Mayor of London (UK) Environment Team, the Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA), Omron Dueltec Automotive Electronics Environmental Compliance Team, Ontario Clean Water Agency and Rogers Communications Inc. She has sat on the board of directors for Whistler’s environmental NGO, AWARE, is currently a board of director for Zero Ceiling Canada and volunteers her time with the governance committee of Zero Ceiling.

As the start of 2022, Tanya started working with her own T.L.C. based out of Brooklyn, NY and near immediately fell in love with the nature of the love-based profession. The conversations created with her T.L.C. were transformational and she’s been on a path of rapid self-discovery since. One of this discoveries was her genuine passion for optimizing life and the desire to be a life-coach herself. As a heartfelt and creative person, life-coaching is a profession that strongly resonates with her passion and interests. To accommodate the career change, Tanya continues to offer limited legal services as a lawyer, while steadily growing her T.L.C. practice. She equally accepts clients as a lawyer and a T.L.C. or both!

Outside law, Tanya is a RYT 200 Yoga Alliance Certified Yoga Instructor and dedicates her spare time to fine art and travel photography, singing and playing piano and guitar, learning about the science of the body and brain, reading inspiring books of all subjects, and a mildly obsessive fascination with (painting) the MOON.
